Abstract |
An account of the influence of John (Jack) Harry Ormsby on poet and "chansonnier" Félix Leclerc. Ormsby (1895-1986) was Leclerc's private English language teacher when the singer was 18 years old. Leclerc, noted for his Quebec nationalism, once stated in an interview that he owed "my passion for songs, my love for Quebec, and my thirst for freedom" to the influence of Ormsby. The Hamilton, Ontario, born Ormsby moved to Quebec in 1917, first to the Gaspé and then to Quebec City.
