Abstract |
In 1904 McGill University's librarian, Charles H. Gould (1855-1919) established a short summer course in librarianship. The University's Library School opened later that year under the jurisdiction of the University Library Committee. It was the first formal library education program in Canada. A course was established in Toronto in 1911 through the Provincial Department of Education, intended in part to train librarians for public and school libraries.
