Visualising the History of Women at Eaton’s, 1869 to 1976
|
Abstract |
An examination of the place of female customers and employees at the T. Eaton Company of Canada, including its Montreal store. The author argues that women were “witnesses” for the development of the company, collectively supporting it in huge numbers, and were “witnesses” of its merchandise and marketing, its stores and catalogues. The thesis also discusses the relationship between Anglophones and Francophones at the Montreal store, both as employees and as customers.
