Abstract |
The American-born John Lyman (1886-1967), a painter, art critic and teacher, taught at McGill University and the Atelier, an academy-style school of art established under the auspices of McGill University. He emphasized internationalism in his writings and teaching. In 1939 Lyman organized The Contemporary Arts Society in Montreal to promote modern art in Canada. The society dissolved in 1948.
