A.J.M. Smith: Of Metaphysics and Dry Bones
|
Abstract |
The author points out that A.J.M. Smith (1902-1980), like T.S. Eliot and others of his generation, turned to metaphysical poetry of the seventeenth century for a model of articulated faith in the face of contemporary dissolution. The Montreal-born Smith was a member of the Montreal Group (a.k.a. the McGill Group) of modernist poets in the 1920s and 1930s.
