Abstract |
The Montreal-born William Edmond Logan (1798-1875) was appointed, in 1842, the first head of the then Montreal-based Geological Survey of Canada. The Nova Scotia-born John William Dawson (1820-1899) served as professor of geology and Principal at McGill University from 1855-1893. Both were of Scottish descent and both studied at the University of Edinburgh.
