Abstract |
The American-born Abner Bagg was a merchant and landowner who immigrated to Montreal with his father Phineas and brother Stanley (1788-1853) around 1795. Abner Bagg's residence is located at the corner of King and William (formerly College Street). It was erected on vacant land acquired by Bagg in 1819 and extended in 1821. The Bagg house was purchased by the brewer William Dow in 1844. It was leased as an inn in the late 1850s and used as a house for British army officers from 1862 until about 1865. In 1991 it was acquired and restored by the Société immobilière du patrimoine architectural de Montréal (SIMPA).
