|
Abstract |
CBC National News anchor Knowlton Nash (1927-2014) describes the controversy around Montreal novelist and pundit Mordecai Richler's 1992 book Oh Canada! Oh Quebec!: Requiem for a Divided Country. Richler (1931-2001) was extremely critical of Quebec’s French-only language law for exterior business signs (Bill 178) and earlier language legislation that restricted the use of English in the province. He described contemporary Quebec as an intolerant, tribal society with anti-Semitic roots.
