Title
Bilinguisme et construction identitaire d’élèves d’écoles de langue anglaise au Québec
Abstract
Quebec offers a particular setting where English is at the same time the majority language of the country and an international lingua franca but a minority language at the provincial level. With data from a survey of two thousand students in English secondary schools in Quebec, the authors analyze the students' English language experiences and their dispositions toward English as a function of the territorial concentration of Anglophones. The authors conclude that the same sociolinguistic principles apply to both official linguistic minorities in Canada (English and French), but that the English-speaking community is a "minority with an edge" due to the fact that it speaks humanity's most powerful language.
