Abstract |
A biography of Montrealer Talbot Mercer Papineau (1883-1917), the great-grand son of Louis Joseph Papineau. Three of his grandparents and his mother were American. A French-Canadian by birth and a Protestant English Quebecer by upbringing and education, Talbot Papineau publicly clashed with his anti-Imperialist cousin Henri Bourassa, editor of Le Devoir newspaper, over Canada's participation in the First World War. A Captain in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, Talbot Papineau was killed in action during the Battle of Passchendaele, Belgium.
