The Blacks in Canada : A History
|
Abstract |
Considered the definitive and most sweeping history of the African-Canadian experience, this book investigates the French and English periods of slavery, the abolitionist movement in Canada, and the role played by Canadians in the broader continental antislavery crusade, as well as Canadian adaptations to nineteenth- and twentieth-century racial mores. The second edition contains new introduction by the author where he describes the changes that occurred since the book's first appearance in 1971 and where African-Canadian studies stood at the end of the twentieth century.
