Abstract |
Samuel (Schmuel) Jacobs, according to the author the first Jew to "legitimately" settle in Quebec, settled in the Richelieu Valley in March 1761. However, records exist that place him with the British Army at the siege of Quebec City in 1760. He later moved to St-Denis and operated a chain of general stores at St-Charles, St-Ours and Sorel. He died in 1786.
