Consolations of the Marsh : Henry Mousley and the Natural History of Southern Quebec
|
Abstract |
The British-born Henry Mousley (1865-1949) immigrated to the Eastern Townships in 1910. In the course of the next four decades, while living first near Hatley Village and later in Montreal, Mousley gained a reputation as the best all-around naturalist-ornithologist of twentieth-century Canada. The author offers a biography of Mousley, beginning with his life in England as a civil engineer, his immigration to Quebec where he became a bird scholar, and then as a naturalist with a speciality in wild orchids.
