Abstract |
The author discusses professional baseball player Pete Rose and his brief stint as a member of the Montreal Expos. He chronicles Rose's signing with the Expos in 1984 and Rose's obtaining his 4,000th career base hit as a member of the Expos. He examines reaction in the sports media to Rose's signing with the Expos, social conditions in Quebec in 1984, and varied media coverage of Rose's Expos career, particularly in Montreal's The Gazette and La Presse newspapers.
