The Canadian Jewish Diaspora: A Tale of Two Cities

Abstract |
Canadian Jews form the third largest Jewish Diaspora community in the world after the United States and France. Arguing that the Canadian Jewish experience is not an extension of the U.S., the author maintains that the Canadian experience is really a tale of two cities – Montreal and Toronto. Approximately eighty percent of all Canadian Jews live in one of these two cities. Montreal is today home to slightly less than 100,000 Jews.
