Frederick Law Olmsted's Mount Royal Park, Montreal: Design and Context
|
Abstract |
An examination of American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted's design (pre-design, design production and post-design) for Montreal's Mount Royal Park between 1874 and 1877. The author considers the park plan as a product of ideas current in urban development and aesthetics of the period, as well as a social and health requirement of the citizens of Montreal, as the artistic and literary interpretations of the park site, and as an aspect of the architect's experience. The author also examines the critical and public response to the park.
