Abstract |
The Montreal-born Blossom Temkin Wigdor (b. 1924) began her career in the field of clinical psychology and later became a pioneer in Canadian gerontology. A graduate of McGill University (BA 1945, PhD 1952), between 1947 and 1979 she worked in Montreal veterans' hospitals and homes for the aged. Her associations with veterans' hospitals would later orient her career towards gerontology. She also taught at McGill University's clinical psychology program from 1952 to 1979. Wigdor was appointed director of the new Programme in Gerontology (now known as the Institute for Life Course and Aging) at the University of Toronto (1979-1989) and then director of the Center for Studies on Aging, (1989-1991).
