Abstract |
An account of the 1902 racially-motivated murder of George Wellington Smith, a Black American-born horse trainer and stable hand who worked in Montreal for Cyrille Laurin. Laurin's son, Edward, shot Smith and was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to fourteen years in the St. Vincent de Paul federal prison.
