The Carlton Hotel Co., formed on Christmas eve 1909, was founded by Montrealers Sir Herbert Holt (1856-1941), Charles Blair Gordon (1867-1939), Hugh Montagu Allan (1860-1951), and Charles Hosmer (1851-1927). The Ritz-Carlton Hotel opened on New Year's eve 1912.
