Abstract |
The author's examination of the effect on French language mother tongue grade school children who attend English language schools. She looked at Francophone children attending six English-language schools in Montreal and one in Quebec City. The author divided the children into three groups: Group 1 consisted of fifteen children who had been in the English school system for one year; Group 2 consisted of twenty-one children who had been in the English school system for two years; and Group 3 consisted of twenty-eight children who had been in the English school system for three years or more. Each student was given the Ministry of Education's French test (1972-1973) for the 6th year, and the performance test in French of the Commission des écoles catholiques de Montréa (1970-1971) for the 4th year. The author found that for each year that a child attended an English-language school, their stanine score decreased proportionatly.
