|
Abstract |
The story of a Montreal-based financial institution from its origins to its present through its iconography. The author explores the Bank of Montreal's history through images of objects, key documents, and forgotten advertisements to explain the institution's leadership, culture, community, challenges and triumphs. The result, he argues, is a story of innovation, nation-building projects, technology, and architectural legacy. The Bank of Montreal is the oldest bank in Canada, founded by nine Montreal Anglophone merchants. It opened for business on November 3, 1817.
