Orientations politiques des mouvements d'alliance et d'opposition aux Patriotes dans les comtés de Missisquoi et de Stanstead, 1834-1837

Abstract |
The author points out that in the years preceeding the Rebellions of 1837 and 1838 in Lower Canada, the English-speaking population of the Eastern Townships counties of Missisquoi and Stanstead were split between those who supported the reformist position of Papineau's Patriote Party, and those who were in favour of protecting the constitutional status quo. Using the local newspaper accounts, the author paints a sympathic picture of the reformers, and a less than sympathic picture of the constitutionalists.
