Abstract
A quantitative examination of the thesis that French-Canadian farmers in Quebec were less productive and poorer than their non-francophone counterparts in the province. Based on the 1851-52 agricultural census, the author concludes that French-Canadian farmers in Quebec were poorer overall than non-francophone farmers, but those French-Canadian farmers on seigniorial lands fared better than all other farmers in the province.
