La Conquête de 1760 et le problème de la transition au capitalisme
|
Abstract |
Examines the historiography on the economic effects of the British takeover of New France. The author challenges the interpretations of Gérald Bernier and Ta Van, who asserted in published articles that English-speaking industrial merchants and urbanization replaced feudalism with capitalism in French Canada after the Conquest. The author argues that Bernier and Van do not understand the economic history of England and English merchants in the eighteenth century.
