Shannon Irish Show: A History in the Making
|
Abstract |
The Shannon Irish Show, sponsored by the Catholic Women's League of Shannon, Quebec, has been an annual event since 1964. The authors explain the pride that generations of Shannonites of Irish descent have put into the preparing for and participating in the show over the past 54 years. Shannon, located 30 km northwest of Quebec City along the Jacques Cartier River, was first settled in the early nineteenth century by Irish immigrants. The town was named after a prominent family of the first wave of Irish immigrants to the area named Shannon.
