Abstract
The author outlines some elements of a response to the question: in what measure can we "see" in the designation "Anglo-Quebec literature" the presence of filiations and affiliations relative to (French) Québécois literature that would go beyond a simple play of influences or even criteria founded solely on place of residence? To answer this question, a dual postulate is proposed by the author. On one hand, she argues that Anglo-Quebec literature should not be viewed apart from the linguistic, cultural, historic, political and territorial tensions its combined epithet presupposes, so that to evoke the idea of an Anglo-Quebec literature is to convoke Québécois literature. On the other hand, the very fact of examining the spurned heritages of contemporary Québécois literature necessitates, beyond the consideration of its "own" affiliations, the consideration of "other" henceforth constituent affiliations, even when such affiliations are refused based on the logic of a conflicting adjunct. The author then proposes the following hypothesis: the issue of the spurned heritages of Québécois literature takes on a singular character when apprehended through the magnifying glass offered by the affiliations, often contested, of Anglo-Quebec literature, notably because the motif of the two solitudes is highlighted. New ethical options and analytical avenues are then profiled, which the author explores at the theoretic, methodological and analytical levels while referring to Simon Harel's work on creative conflictuality and to the novel Black Bird (2003) by the Anglo-Quebec writer Michel Basilières.
