Abstract |
Beginning with Irving Layton’s youth in Montreal, the author examines the poet’s life and work, including Layton’s association with Louis Dudek and the First Statement poets, the publication of his first book of poetry in 1945, and his success in the 1960s. Based on extensive interviews with Layton's friends, family, and colleagues, the author reveals how the poetry and the life overlaped.
