Abstract |
The British-born Abraham de Sola (1825-1882) immigrated to Montreal in 1846 when he was elected minister of the city's Shearith Israel Congregation. In 1848, De Sola was appointed lecturer, and in 1853 professor, of Hebrew and Oriental literature at McGill University. He was also president of Montreal's Natural History Society for several years. In 1858. McGill conferred an honorary LL.D. degree on de Sola.
