Title
Le décline de l'empire montréalais : regard sur l'économie d'une métropole en mutation
Abstract
The economy of the Montreal region went into severe decline starting in the 1970s, with job losses totaling hundreds of thousands. Cut off from its former commercial hinterland, Montreal lost its position as Canada's principal economic centre and is now simply the economic capital of Quebec. The authors argue that although the dimensions of Montreal's commercial empire are smaller than formerly, they rest upon a much more solid foundation than in the past. They maintain that Montreal does not have the profile of a metropolis destined to an unending decline.
