Abstract
Robert Rutherford McCormick (1880-1955) was an American lawyer and the owner and publisher of the Chicago Tribune newspaper. Having noticed the urgent need for a sustained supply of newsprint, he visited the Quebec North Shore in 1915 in search of an exploitable forest and hydroelectric energy source to transform it into newsprint. In 1936 he established the town of Baie-Comeau and constructed a paper mill and a hydroelectric power plant there, named McCormick Dam, to generate electricity for the mill.
