Abstract |
The biography of Montreal businessman and politician Luther Hamilton Holton (1817-1880). Holton was a member of the Montreal City Council from 1850 to 1851, and later represented Montreal and then Chateauguay in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada. He represented Montreal Centre in the Quebec Legislative Assembly from 1871 to 1874, and from 1867 to 1880 represented Chateauguay in the House of Commons. Rising from humble origins, Holton became an entrepreneur extraordinaire, with interests in real estate, railway building, steamboats, and banking.
