Impact de la genèse d’une collection muséale sur le processus d’acquisition futur : Étude comparative de l’histoire des collections de l’Art Association of Montreal et de la Royal Canadian Academy of Arts
Abstract
The Art Association of Montreal was founded in 1860 by a group of predominately Montreal Anglophones. The art gallery of the Association was opened in 1879 as the result of a gift of land, money and ninety canvases and eight bronzes by Montreal tailor Benaiah Gibb (1798-1877). In 1949, the Association changed its name to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Toronto-based Royal Canadian Academy of Arts was founded in 1880 through collaboration by the Ontario Society of Artists and the Art Association of Montreal.
