Abstract |
Stand-up comic performer Samir Khullar, known by his stage name Sugar Sammy, is an Indo-Montrealer from Côtes-des-Neiges who speaks and performs in English, French, Hindi, and Punjabi, sometimes using these languages in the same sentence. The author examines Khullar's celebrity within Québécois popular culture, arguing that the comic's performances illustrate a version of Québécois national belonging that has not yet been collectively imagined by his Francophone and Anglophone audience.
