Abstract |
At the end of the century, the Art Association of Montreal (AAM), a cultural gem of the English-speaking elite, organised an annual exhibition for Canadian artists. About half of the artists resided in Quebec, and among them, almost half were women. The author conducted an in-depth analysis for the year 1897 and found that 25 of the 59 artists residing in Quebec, or 42% of them, were women.
