| Abstract |
The British-born Anglican Minister Richard Bradford (1752-1817) opened a mission in Chatham Township, Lower Canada, in 1805. He later expanded his missionary work to the adjacent seigneury of Argenteuil and beyond. He is considered the founder of the Church of England in the Ottawa Valley. In 1808 he was asked by the bishop to take over the Anglican parish at William Henry (Sorel). He remained there until 1811, when he returned to Chatham Township.
