Title
La mobilité démographique et immobilière à Compton au tournant du siècle
Abstract
Compton County, in the Eastern Townships, was first settled by English-speaking farmers, merchants and artisans at the end of the eighteenth century, and by 1815 there were approximately 700 families living in the area. Francophone settlers, mainly from the Beauce region, began moving into the area after 1850. In the space of a decade, Compton County lost its English-speaking majority. The author analyzes the area's cultural communities and the socio-economic conditions of Compton County between 1901 and 1910.
