Abstract |
A history of the political, social and economic evolution of Missisquoi County from the time of its first settlement by Europeans to Confederation. The author examines the area during the French regime and the coming of the American Loyalists and British immigrants; the development of the forest industries (potash, lumbering, furniture making, maple sugar), agriculture, mills, and transportation; the political development of the county; the social and religious changes during the period under examination, and the migration of Francophones into the area after 1850.
