Beyond Business: Interactions Between English and French Through the Archives of the Douglas Family, An Overview
|
Abstract |
The author provides a perspective on language relations between Anglophones and Francophones in Missisquoi County, in the Eastern Townships, at the turn of the twentieth century. She uses archival documents from the Douglas family to look at the experience of Anglophones living in an area with a significant Francophone population. The documents suggest that this geographical proximity led to the formation of not only business relationships but also personal relationships between the two groups.
