More Disgrace than Honor: The Diminishment of Paternal Authority in the Letters of Aaron Hart
|
Abstract |
The author looks at the letters written by eighteenth century Trois-Rivières Jewish businessman Aaron Hart (1724- 1800) to his four adult sons, focusing on what they reveal about the nature of family ties in that setting and the gap between Hart's desire to influence his sons' religious and career directions and his limited ability to do so. Topics include Hart's background and Jewish communal life.
