Abstract |
In 1914, the author was hired by McGill University's Macdonald College "to obtain a general idea of conditions in rural schools in so far as they related to work of an agricultural nature." He spent that summer visiting schools in the Eastern Townships and west Quebec (Argenteuil, Pontiac and Wright counties) to determine local needs and conditions of the schools, “to report upon them, and at the same time furnish suggestions which might be of assistance to the [Macdonald] college in carrying on extension work in rural schools." Of special historic relevance of this author's report/thesis is that he describes, and provides photographs, of the English-language rural schools he visited.
