Abstract
The Dutch-born Cornelius Krieghoff (1815-1872) moved from Montreal to Quebec City in 1852-53. The author examines the painter’s work during this period, especially Krieghoff’s use of wilderness settings and what this probably meant to the people who commissioned or bought the paintings.
