Title
Québec, 1859 : la commémoration des événements de 1759
Abstract
The author examines six Quebec City newspaper for September 1859 to see how the town commemorated the centenary of the battle on the Plains of Abraham in September 1759 that led to the British conquest of New France. The papers examined were Le Canadien, Le Journal de Québec, and Le Courrier du Canada; and The Quebec Gazette, The Quebec Mercury and The Quebec Chronicle. The author concludes that the 1859 commemoration of the battle on the Plains of Abraham was low-keyed, and that French Quebecers and English Quebecers held separate ceremonies to commemorate the battle.
