Abstract |
The anti-Semitic reaction of Francophone Catholics in Quebec's Upper Town to the city's Jewish community's intention to build a new synagogue in the Saint-Roch neighbourhood in the 1940s. The reaction went so far as an attempt being made to burn down the new building on the day before its inauguration as the Beth Israël Ohev Sholem Synagogue in 1944.
