Abstract |
An examination of the records of seven Montreal Nonconformist churches reveals significant differences in the social composition and moral codes of these Protestant denominations. The artisan-dominated Erskine Presbyterian congregation sought protection of independence and free will, while the more socially polarized Zion Congregational Church focused on individual conduct and morals.
