Abstract
John Savage, an Irish-born New York Loyalist and the leader of thirty-nine associates who, in 1801, was granted 35,490 acres that became known as Shefford Township. This article focuses on Savage’s early life in New England, his involvement in the American Revolution, and his decision to move his family to the Eastern Townships.
