Title
Les Jardins de Métis : Elsie Reford’s Canadian Garden
Abstract
Railroad heiress Elsie Meighen Reford (1872-1967) turned her fishing camp on the Métis River into a large garden during the 1920s and 1930s. The garden fell into disrepair from the 1960s to the 1990s, but private interests began a restoration project in 1995. Today, the Jardins de Métis, also known as the Reford Gardens, is a world-renowned horticultural tourist destination.
