Title
Once a Soldier, Always a Soldier... Germans & the Loyal Rangers 1783
Abstract
The author discusses German mercenaries who joined the Loyal Rangers (also known as or Jessup's Rangers), a British Provincial military unit serving in southern Quebec which was led by major commandant Edward Jessup (1735-1816). According to the author, many of these German soldiers considered military service their career and were uninterested in pursuing other occupations following their official discharge at the end of the U.S. Revolutionary War. A letter from Jessup to his superiors regarding the German recruits is presented.
