Abstract
Eugene Addison McDowell (1845-1893) was an American actor and impresario who toured Canada in the late nineteenth century. In 1875, Montreal businessman Hugh Allan engaged McDowell to open and run the Academy of Music in the city. Eighteen months later, however, the Academy closed because it was a financial disaster.
