Création d’entreprises chez les ingénieurs francophones, anglophones et allophones du Québec
Abstract
The authors examine the divergent evolution of the rates of firm creations, circa 1980s, among Quebec's engineers of different cultural origins. They discovered that the rates of business creation among Anglophone and Allophone engineers was increasing consistently over time, while firm creation from Francophone engineers was stagnant. They conclude that the result is somewhat troubling because they believe that Francophones of older generations form the group of engineers who were the most entrepreneurial, whereas Francophone engineers from the younger generation appear to be the least entrepreneurial. They argue that the results cannot be explained by the late entry of Francophone engineers into entrepreneurial activities, and that the exodus of Anglophone and Allophone engineers from Quebec does not bode well for the province.
