Title
Espaces ethniques et question linguistique au Québec : à propos des communautés italienne et portugaise
Abstract
The Italian and Portuguese communities in Quebec traditionally chose English as a vehicle of social promotion, and resisted the imposition of French as the language of school instruction for their children. The authors argue that the language conflict in Quebec, as well as the antagonism between French- and English-speaking Quebecers, allowed these two ethnic groups greater room to maneuver in Quebec than elsewhere in Canada.
